As of 4/11/2011/p>
Here’s an update on where things stand:
- God's Littlest Angel Orphanage is accepting applications for adoptions: Adoption laws are currently being voted on and there are some good things in the law if the Senate doesn’t change them:
- Haitian adoptionswere typically taking twelve to twenty-four months after a family's dossier reached the orphanage prior to the earthquake of January 12th, 2010. The timeline is unknown at this time since adoption applications are just now being allowed. The vote on the new adoption law could occur in MAY 2011. for more details and updates please see And Life In Haiti Goes On
1. A couple must be married 5 years if not married, then have lived together as a couple for 10 years. (the law does not mention age)
2. If one member of a couple is over 30 years old, then it says they can adopt without length of marriage being a problem. (we think this part will be changed and we want it to read if there is documented infertility. None of the directors were in favor of a newly married couple adopting.)
3. NOTHING IS MENTIONED ABOUT NUMBER OF CHILDREN IN A FAMILY!!!! It just says priority consideration is given to couples with no biological children, but if a couple has biological children then children over 8 years old within the family must give their consent to their parents adopting another child. (LET’S PRAY THIS IS LEFT IN!)
4. Single women and men can adopt if they are widowed or divorced and at least 35 years old. (We are going to ask the senators to change this to read SINGLE, WIDOWED, OR DIVORCED)
We need to pray that the law isn’t changed too much and only improved in places. If the Senators change anything, the proposed law then needs to go back into the House of Deputies to vote on the changes made.

What Happened in Haiti after the Earthquake?
Wonder what it was like for an earthquake orphan? Here's a wonderful blog that gives a picture of what it was like at God's Littlest Angel's orphanage. In 2008, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 301 children from Haiti. Infants, young children, teens, and special needs children were available for adoption, as well as sibling groups. The children reside in orphanages. The Night of the Earthquake for orphans in Haiti
Haitian adoptions took several years. Some childcare's whose paperwork in the process when the earthquake hit. These parents who had already spend months and some a year, to bring their children home got a chance to expedite the adoption process and bring their children home from the chaos with humanitarian visas.
Haitis Orphans come home
God's Littlest Angels Orphans come home
For newly orphaned children wandering the streets of Haiti's capital begging for food, it sounds like a dream come true. But agencies trying to evacuate children whose parents died in last week's earthquake have been criticized for bypassing proper adoption processes to rush them to families offering new lives in the West. The number of orphaned children in Haiti already stood at around 380,000 before the January disaster. However, the lack of proper communications, and a chaotic situation on the ground, has raised fears that children may be shipped overseas without anyone making sure there are no extended family members alive. US Citizen's accused of children trafficing Many say that the love and concern for these children is overwhelming, but completing a quick Haitian adoption is probably not going to be a possibility. Efforts are being made to help these children, but the priority now is to save their lives. Please see how you can help do that now, while starting the paperwork to begin an adoption from Haiti.
The earth quake is likely to leave several thousand orphaned children. We at God's Littlest Angels are preparing to take in as many of these children as we possibly can. We are asking adoptive parents overseas to petition their governments to allow children who are in the process of being adopted to enter the countries of the families who are adopting the on humanitarian visas. Their adoptions could then be completed in their home countries, If all of our children who are currently matched with families who are been approved to adopt could be evacuated, we would be able to admit at least a hundred of the children who have been orphaned by this disaster.
