International adoptions are getting harder for foreigners. At this time China, Russia, Guatamala and Vietnam are imposing greater restrictions and in some cases completely shutting down adoptions out of country. According to USA Today, "Russia is effectively shutting its doors, beginning today, to most Americans who want to adopt Russian children. The action follows new obstacles to adoption from China and Guatemala. Those three countries account for 70% of the orphans who have come to the United States in the past five years — about 10% of all U.S. adoptions." http://www.usatoday.com In another article by USA today they reported, "A decline in foreign adoptions since restrictions imposed by Russia and China is prompting greater interest in U.S.-born kids, including those in foster care. A USA TODAY survey of a dozen large adoption agencies found an increase from 2006 to 2007 in inquiries, home studies or placements of U.S.-born children." Consider adopting foster children here in the US. There are 126,000 children waiting for loving permanent families. Many use the term Fost-Adopt when referring to adopting children who have been removed from parents care due to neglect or abuse. Do you realize that one in four foster children enters the system before their first birthday. Newborns make up the largest percentage of these infants. Most of the children are either Caucasian or African American. The average child in foster care goes through three different placements (homes/families) and stays in the "system" for 33 months. Many people are turning to foster adoption. There are so many children in need of homes. A mother to love and care for them. A father to provide support, comfort and strength.
