China

Adoption Community

China Adoption is considered by many in the international adoption community to be the most stable of the countries currently open for international adoption. The China adoption process is considered fairly predictable although there is always the possibility that delays may occur on a particular adoption or nationally. Although in 2011, many parents have opted for other countries due to the length of wait for a healthy infant or toddler. Some parents are opening their hearts to an International Adoption through China's special focus program. Many families believe that "special needs" are always life-long disabilities. This simply isn't true. Many thousands of children are born with a specific special need such as cleft lip, extra finger, club foot, a hole in their heart, even a minor form of spina bifida, which are then repaired shortly after birth. However, a child will not be listed as "healthy" even when their condition has been repaired and the child shows little, or absolutely no, effect from the condition. These children are labeled special needs. In other cases, infants needing surgery are on the list. Toddlers who may have once been delayed but are now "on-target" are listed. In other cases, children do have more involved special needs.

It amazes me the network of support that is found when you decide to adopt from China. Unlike any other country the China Adoption Community reaches out and provides encouragement and resources in every way imaginable. Because the Chinese adoption process is so orderly most parents walk through the steps in the same manner. Providing encouragement and support to one another along the way. Even though there are some changes in the qualifications of parents, it's still an option that many families will continue to choose. Rainbow Kids CHINA resources
