Adopting Siblings; A Forever Family that keeps brothers and sisters together
Adopting siblings was the first thing I wanted to do when we made the decision to foster adopt. So many children need homes that have already made bonds with siblings. We put our names in for adopting sibling groups of two and then three. We found that the more children in the sibling group in our area, the younger the children happened to be.Of course we didn't go into blindly. " Some people sometimes think that love can conquer all, but when you're parenting kids who are tough to parent, you need to understand that although love is essential, other ingredients are necessary for success,'' she explained. ‘‘How much humor and creativity do the parents have and how much tolerance for disrespect and testing? There will be trials and tribulations." We had to teach these kids to trust us and love us. But first we had to make ourselves worthy of their trust. Strict routines, evident boundaries and lots of silliness made the children feel safe and allowed them to open up to us with less fear.
