China Adoption
2011 update China Adoptions Is this International Adoption option CLOSED? Thousands of children made their homes in new families through China's in the past. The China adoption program was one of the most reliable and stable, and China is the country from which most U.S. citizens have elected to adopt since the year 2000. In 2010, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 3,401 children from China. In 2011 however, it appears that many less children will find families abroad as China has tightened it's restrictions on families and increased the waiting times for hopeful families. China still allows the adoption of healthy, young babies, however, these international adoptions generally take many years. The people receiving referrals now, June 2011, have waited about five years. Their total time to adopt a child from China was about six years, although they were told at the time that it would be less than one year. According to China Adoption Forcast: If you are just putting in your dossier right now, you should expect a wait ofat least ten years from the time your dossier is logged-in for a referral. This will make your total time to adopt from China's general adoption program, from initial decision to adopt until receiving a child, more than eleven years. Obviously, domestic adoption and internationaladoption from other countries are likely to be much faster ways to havea family than adopting a healthy infant from China. Is your heart still set on China? Perhaps you should look into the Special Focus Program of waiting children. The children who are part of an Agency's Special Focus list are ready to be adopted. Adopting one of these waiting children can be accomplished in as little as 6 months (for those with some adoption paperwork completed) and generally takes less than one year. Who are the children in this program? According to Rainbow Kids.com, : "Many thousands of children are born with a specific special need such as cleft lip, extra finger, club foot, a hole in their heart, even a minor form of spina bifida, which are then repaired shortly after birth. However, a child will not be listed as "healthy" even when their condition has been repaired and the child shows little, or absolutely no, effect from the condition. These children are labeled special needs. In other cases, infants needing surgery are on the list. Toddlers who may have once been delayed but are now "on-target" are listed. In other cases, children do have more involved special needs." Find out MORE about photolistings of children and children waiting for adoptions I HIGHLY recommend a visit to Rainbow Kids.com.
